For the second successive year, Kenyan Rally fans will be treated to another rally spectacle as the sixth round of the FIA World Rally Championship will be going down in Nairobi and Naivasha from June 23rd – 26th.
In an elite drivers’ line up consisting of veterans who have won it all, the Safari Rally promises nothing but a titanic battle. Loeb, Ogier, Tänak and Neuville are all experinced drivers with various accolades to their names. However, Young drivers, including championship leader Kalle Rovanpera are expected to give the oldies a run for their money in the eagerly awaited mouth-watering clash.
THE STAGES
The Safari Rally will consist of 19 stages and stretches for 363.56km. The opening leg will kick off at the Southern and Nothern shores of Lake Naivasha followed by Geothermal and Kedong to the North. Kedong which stretches to 31.25km is the longest stage of the rally. After service, all three stages will be repeated to bring the days grand total to 124.20km.

Roads further North around Lake Elementaita will host Saturdays action, which will traverse Soysambu, Delamere estate and the Sleeping warrior stretches to a total of 134.90km.The three stages will also be driven through for a second time after service.
However, the grand finale will return to the South of Lake Naivasha. The drivers will set off at the Oserengoni wildlife conservancy estate before going through Narasha and Hell’s gate which finishes amid stunning scenery at the fishers tower. The three stages will again be driven through after service, totalling to 99.62km.
THE RETURN OF THE SAFARI
After a 19 year absence, the rally championship did not dissapoint in last years edition with thousands of fans having thronged Naivasha to enjoy what lived up to be one of the most entertaining rally outings in the country’s history. This year promises to be no different as rally fanatics expect an epic display in Naivasha.
8-time world champion Sébastien Ogier led a 1-2 Toyota Gazoo scoop with compatriot Takamoto Katsuta coming second in last years safari rally edition. Ott Tänak came in third to complete the podium.Ogier faces a humongous task in his title defence as 9-time world champion Sébastien Loeb will gunning for to win on his return to kenyan Safari rally competition.

Toyota Gazoo driver Sèbastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia are the reigning drivers’ and co-drivers’ champions, having secured their eighth championship title at the 2021 rally in Monza. However, Ingrassia will not be defending his title having retired from the competition at the end of last season.
THE BATTLE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Finish driver Kalle Rovänpera and his co-driver Jonne Haltunnen lead the drivers’ championships by fifty-five points after the fifth round with Belgian Thiery Neuville and Martijn Wyadhaege coming second. Ott Tanäk and Martin Järveoja are third, a further three points behind. Reigning manufacturer’s champion Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT holds a thirty-nine-point lead over Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT, with M-sport Ford WRT in third in the Manufaturer’s standings.

Frenchman Sébastien Ogier hopes to reignite his season by defending his kenyan title but will face stiff competition from not only Ford’s 9-time world champion Sébastien Loeb but as well his Toyota Gazoo compatriot Kalle Rovanperä and Hyundai’s Ott Tãnak.
Belgian Thiery Neuville who has been blowing hot and cold this season will be hoping to overturn his last years tribulations and showcase Hyundai’s prowess against the Toyotas and Fords.
A couple of weeks remain until the sixth round kicks off in Naivasha, but the million dollar question remains, who will reign supreme?
